It’s a modern day publishing MIRACLE!

On the Day You Were Born
temporarily disappears
from bookstore shelves but
RETURNS September 1, 2026

I am thrilled to report that after traveling through the hands of many publishers and editors, On the Day You Were Born is returning to the care of its ORIGINAL EDITOR, Allyn Johnston, at Beach Lane Books, her imprint at Simon & Schuster.

When a book reaches 35 years in print, the copyright reverts to the author. It is rare that a book is still viable after three and a half decades but this book, thanks to YOU, is thriving — and I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to consider another publisher. Allyn’s enthusiasm to acquire the book was only the beginning of a long process spent re-evaluating everything from print color, text, glossary and bio updates, all to ready On the Day You Were Born for its next thirty-five years! It has been a thrill to work with Allyn on this project again. A board book and the return of a Spanish edition will follow soon after.

Every day = Earth Day

“The verses themselves are magnificent.”

“… Though the text is a delight, the collage illustrations are the real stars of the show, a mix of Matisse-inspired art and photography. A stunning tribute that will make future conservationists out of all who read it.”
