Each year Debra Frasier visits a limited number of schools around the United States. Her slide presentations on the process of making her award winning picture books have been enthusiastically received by students and faculty alike. In addition, Debra’s lectures for educators are widely requested by seminars, colleges, and conferences. Throughout the years it takes to make a book, Debra photographs the details, paying close attention to the trials, joys, and tribulations of each project. Her slide lectures inspire students and teachers with the visual proof that all ideas start with a very small seed. Debra’s lectures combine story, slides, and curriculum support. The presentations can include the following topics: the search for ideas, the process of writing, journal keeping, the editing process, creating illustrations, how working with art can help writing, paper cut-out techniques, making a book into a play, music as a language and personal content, including a strong sense of the Earth’s beauty. Debra’s enthusiasm for writing and illustrating has proved to be contagious to both students and faculty. |
